Naval Ammunition Depot DVD-Now available at the Adams County Historical Society and at the "Gift Shop" on this site. This brief historic sketch using photos, drawings and narration provides a glimpse into the 24-year life of the Naval Ammunition Depot at Hastings, Nebraska. The lives of the thousands of people who labored there and risked their lives as civilians in the war efforts of this nation is evident in each image and word. In the 21st century over 2,000 permanent structures still stand as landmarks to the amazing sacrifices and effort put forth by the patriotic Americans who experienced this real-life adventure.
Fountain to Fountain Tour Book" and DVD of "Connections to the Past" (View short clip)-Now available at the Adams County Historical Society and at the "Gift Shop" on this site. Tour Book includes six tours of Hastings, residential and commercial. "Connections to the Past" is an hour long film about the connected history of Hastings as told through its historic architecture.
October History Events
Join the Adams County Historical Society and the Hastings Community Theatre for a season-appropriate walk through Hastings' largest cemetery. Groups of 15-20 guests will join tour guides for an easy stroll through the cemetery. At each of the gravesites, interpreters will portray the person buried there, or someone important to them, telling stories in the context of the history of Hastings and Adams County. Graves included in the 2012 Cemetery Walk are those of: Elizabeth Twidale-Early Adams County homesteader and prominent butcher's wife; Curt Alexander-One of the most colorful of Hastings' pioneers; Victor Wheeler-member of the WWI Canadian Expeditionary Force and WWII British mission; Alice Brooke-One of Hastings' earliest female politicians, optometrist, and early advocate for women's rights; Ida Allyn-Mother of Arthur Allyn, a WWI soldier killed after armistice; and Earnest Brandes-An early Hastings car dealer and collector.
