The Hines Photo Collection was found in the attic of a house on University Avenue in 2010 and donated to the Historical Society by Gretchen Lainson. The collection consists of over 400 glass plate negatives, most of them unidentified.
William B. Hines, son of John Hines who homesteaded near Kenesaw, Nebraska, opened a photography studio in Kenesaw about 1893. About 1900 he moved his studio to Hastings but for some years continued to operate a studio part-time in Kenesaw. He retired in 1932 and died in 1946.
The photos in the collection appear to range in time from mid 1890s until about 1920. Some of the negatives had a name scratched on the plate. Those names are above the photos. If you recognize a photo please email us with the information.
